While receiving some art instruction through the Loudoun Academy of the Arts, Tracy Hanson is primarily a self-taught intuitive. Her work most often reflects her affinity for abstract expressionism and incorporates acrylics, textures, oils and pastels. From earliest childhood, Tracy’s artistic expression was ignited through travel, having lived in Bolivia, Ecuador, Italy, Spain and Austria. Her exposure to the ancient heritage of the world’s art and music can be seen in her earthy, passionate use of color, deep tonal qualities and lyrical style. For Tracy, each painting is a personal journey, an immediate response to life in the moment, drawing upon a rich depository of sensory and emotional experiences. “Painting is meditative for me. I often get lost for hours and feel rejuvenated after completing a session with everything spilled out on canvas. I never know where the picture is going to take me from the beginning to the end and there is so much joy in that awareness. Playing my music and sitting at my easel creates a harmonious balance, as the music enriches the process.”
